Especially for You Race 2011

Well, it is that time of year again for the Especially for You Race in Cedar Rapids. The race is on October 2nd and starts near Mercy Hospital.
This year I did manage to get a group of 20 people together to help support my own breast cancer fundraiser, the Marla Bea Benefit. (check it out www.MarlaBeaBenefit.com)

I have not been focusing on running lately, so I hope that I can run this entire 5k.

The journey (on the radio) is over.

Well, if you tuned in early yesterday morning to KZIA, you heard me announce that I am ready to pass on the shirt. When I first got it, I always said I would keep it for a year and now the time is up!
It was a great time, I will probably post a reflection at some point. But just because I will not be on the radio, this is not the end of my journey, it has just started in my mind...

Girls on the Run...again!

Getting prepared this weekend for my daughter's Girls on the Run 5K. I am once again her "running buddy" for this race. She is doing a great job and we should be able to beat our time from last fall 47 minutes!

Contrary to popular belief, I still exist!

I have not been on much lately, I have been trying to finish up my third degree. I am in my last semester at Kirkwood earning a Web Design degree. I have been trying to finish up my final project. My journey down this road is in a very strange flux right now, I am gaining some weight back, but I am running further than I ever have before. I can barely run 20 minutes on a treadmill but I can go out side and run for an hour. It is a strange and frustrating place to be in. I just need to "keep swimming" and hopefully I will get out of this lackluster place that I am in.

I did sign up for a the Timber City Adventure Race which will take place on June 25th in Maquoketa. It consists of an 8-mile rowing, 14 mile bike ride, and a 3.1 mile run. So my goal is to train for this race and finish it.

After that I am going to get ready for the Bix 7 race again this year. This was one of the first events I did when I started with the Brotherhood last year, my goal this year is to run the entire 7 miles...can I do it. I beleive I can (if I can get out of this funk!).

I want to say a big congrats to Matt Hoover, who will be graduating from the University of Iowa on May 14th, the same day as my Kirkwood Graduation! Congrats Matt!

I'll try to keep up with all of you more on this blog. (Be easier once my class is over). Keep me in your thoughts! Help keep me moving!

Nice weather...

I finally got outside for a run today. I did not realize how nice of a day it was. I saw many people out for a run or walk as I was driving home. I dropped my daughter off at dance and then decided to go for a run...it was great!

Back to the start.

It is very strange that when you work out and work out, that you end up gaining weight. I have lost 6 lbs in the last couple of weeks during this 100 Day live healthy challenge, but I ended up gaining it all back. I am not sure what to do in order to get myself back on track. I guess I don't feel that I am completely off track. I just need to focus and refocus.
Hopefully I can get this turned around and start losing some weight again.

Hibernation, better for bears!

Not a bad first week of the live healthy 100 day challenge! I lost 5 lbs, and been keeping my Gruve up into the green lighting.
Things have been pretty good, I just need to (and have always needed too) get some of the food eating habits out of my life. I feel like I am hibernating sometimes. I come home late at night and just raid the fridge like I am going to got to sleep for 8 months.
I also need to get rid of my soda habit again, that is such an unconcious choice at restaurants and home, I am done with it before I start drinking it. I did so well when I started this journey, but now soda is always around me, perhaps acknowledging this here on the blog will help me get it under control.

Keep on moving, 93 days left on the challenge!
