Week of Fun Planned!

What have I gotten myself into, I seem to ask myself that a lot! This week will definatly be a test for me.

Today, I finally started my Couch to 5k App on the iTouch. It starts me off pretty slow and I run for 1 minute and then walk for 90 seconds. I thought a minute would be a long time to run, but before I knew it I was being prompted to walk. I admit before the 20 minute workout was over I was feeling a little winded but I was able to get through it and then walk for another 40 minutes or so afterwards. Now I am committed to this program for 9 weeks, but then I should be a 5K running machine.

This program will work pretty good I think, I don't want to get into running to quickly, I have heard from a few of my friends who are being diagnosed with plantar flacitis. I do not want that.

If you have can get apps on your phone or iTouch and want to try running, I would suggest the Couch to 5k app, it works wonderful. You can use your music and then when the time is up to run/walk a voice fades in and tells you to switch. You only have to focus on what you are doing and not worry about the time. (Although there is a countdown on the display if you obsess over time.)

Next, this week, I have my personal training starting at Core Fitness in North Liberty. Monday Morning at 6am I will be working my butt off. I am actually excited for this, I do expect that I will do well with this.

Then to celebrate this week, I have the Bix 7 coming up next Saturday. My sister and I will try to tackle the 7 mile course, including the famouse Brady Street Hill right at the beginning of the course. The hill is a gentle 7-9% grade for over a third of a mile. Always fun to do with thousands of people. I hope to finish the course in under 90 minutes with a combination of jogging and walking. Wish me luck!
